Coach Requirements

  • All members of the coaching staff, paid and volunteer, have completed a criminal background check in compliance with RCW 43.43.830 through 43.43.845. (This can be done through USA Lacrosse) 
  • All Coaches, paid or volunteer, shall be knowledgeable about the nature and risk of concussion and head injury including the risks of continuing to play after a concussion or head injury, in addition to Sudden Cardiac Arrest.  
  • All Head Coaches shall be: 
  • certified in First Aid and CPR prior to the first day of In-Season. 
  • at least 21 years old, However, an individual that is not 21 years old prior to the first day of In-Season may request a waiver from the Executive Director 
  • Silver Level USA Lacrosse Coaching certified for the following levels: Varsity; JV; 14U; and 12U. For the avoidance of doubt, WSLA does not require Silver Level USA Coaching Certification for either 10U or 8U. 
  • Each year, all coaches from each High School League Team and Head coaches for each 14U, 12U and 10U Youth League Team should attend New Rules Interpretation Session provided by USA Lacrosse or the Washington Women’s Lacrosse Officials Association. All other coaches are encouraged to attend. 
  • Recruit or retain officials as laid out at the league meeting
  • Send a representative to the scorer/timer clinic every other season (assuming the scorer/timer from the previous season is still present). 

CPR Classes

  1. Check with your local fire department or a local hospital
  2. Check with the Red Cross: Red Cross Training | Take a Class | Red Cross
  3. Check with the American Heart Association: American Heart Association CPR and First Aid


*If you coach at a high school, you can check with them too as they may be setting up classes for their other coaches/staff.
