Girls Youth Lacrosse Jamboree - Marymoor Park, 5/10/08

On a cloudy Seattle day, girls youth lacrosse teams invaded Marymoor Park to compete in their mid-season jamboree. Hosted by the Eastside Eagles, nine 5/6 grade teams and sixteen 7/8 grade teams came from Washington and Oregon to play.

Snohomish and Eastside Eagles had 4 teams each, participate in the jamboree. Eastside 5/6 White went undefeated the whole day. While Eastside 7/8 Green dominated by winning all of their games as well. West Linn and Styx Clique from Oregon also did very well only losing one game each. The tournament director, Barry Savage, commented, "Our goal was to provide a fun and competitive day of girl’s lacrosse. Thanks to all the efforts of the players, parents, coaches, umpires, sponsors, and volunteers we achieved that goal!"

There were officials from both states. Head ref Duke Kamstra was quoted as saying, "The Eastside Eagles did a fantastic job coordinating the participation of all the teams and all the officials did a great job refereeing." Vashon Island, a demonstration program this year, participated in the jamboree and got a taste of what league play will hopefully be. Coach Gene Lipitz says, "It was a fantastic day, and a great way to end our season." Phil Newman, coach of West Linn says, "it was great to see different styles and play in Washington compared to Oregon."

A similar quote from player Anjulia Wilson, 7/8 Snohomish Red, was, "I liked it. It was a fun experience. It was good to see the diversity of the teams. It was really cool to have some Oregon teams come up here to play."

A fairly new family to lacrosse, the Hearn family, shared, "It was a great experience. Thank you for the hard work and enthusiasm. It was a very well run program and we all had a great time." In the future the girl’s lacrosse board hopes to have many more fabulous jamborees like this one.
