WSLA's  High School lacrosse season  Practices will begin April 19 (adjusted from April 26 as of 1.27.2021 WSLA board meeting). 5 practices are required before playing in a game. Games begin the week of May 3, 2021.  There will be 8 Varsity games, 6 JV games.  Last day of games June 11, 2021. US Lacrosse Level 1 Workshop Coupon Code

I wanted to let you know that US Lacrosse has given us a coupon code for the US Lacrosse Level 1 Coach Workshop since we require that all 14U, JV and Varsity HEAD coaches are US Lacrosse Level 1 certified.  The coupon code will make the virtual workshop only $10 out of pocket.  As we discussed during the October league meetings, the workshops are way more "theory" based than the in-person clinics, BUT they've made some tweaks to the content since they first started and they've added in a lot more practical info -- so they may be more appropriate for your new coaches.   At any rate, this is an easy way to get Level 1 certified this year given that it's all online/virtual! I’d encourage any coach interested to take advantage.

Coupon Code (good for any Level 1/Athlete Centered Workshop):

COVID Resources

Important COVID Resource Links for Programs:

WA State's COVID-19 Roadmap to Recovery Jan 5, 2021

Here are the most recent WA state requirements for youth sports. Whether or not a sport is allowed, and to what degree it is allowed depends on a combination of the risk category for the sport and the COVID risk category for the region in which the sport is to take place.

2020 Season Refunds

Below is the WSLA information regarding refunds for the 2020 season. Thank you to those that promptly responded regarding addresses for refund checks! IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE SO ALREADY PLEASE SEND YOUR MAILING ADDRESS AND WHO THE REFUND CHECK SHOULD BE MADE OUT TO TO ADMIN@WSLAX.ORG ASAP. We will not send a refund without a properly verified address.

The WSLA bookkeeper, Linda Briant, will be working over the next 2-3 weeks to get the refunds out. There are about 70 so please have patience as she works through the list. As you are all aware, we have expenses that don’t just go away when the season is effectively cancelled, so we wanted to give insight into the approach we took to determine refund amounts by team. First and foremost, we looked at every potential future expense to determine if it could be avoided or deferred. The majority of our overall administrative expenses had already been incurred by the time the season would have started, but we do have some ongoing expense that we cannot avoid if we want to be able to continue to be a going concern for future years. Next, we looked at our overall financial position and determined that we could absorb an additional $5k loss above what we had budgeted for the year. This will reduce our reserves, but we should be ok for future years. We then determined the refund amount by grade level. There was no perfect way to do this, we tried to do it proportionally to the amount of the original fee, but to also keep it somewhat simple. Here is where we landed:

Team Level

Original Fee

2020 Final Fee

Gross Refund Amt

In a few instances teams still had fees outstanding (final registration payment, supplemental insurance fee, HS Rating Jamboree) so those will be deducted from the above refund amounts. If you have any questions when you receive your refund check please reach out to Cfrizalone@comcast.net. If your program has a net due still, you will receive a separate email invoice from our bookkeeper after all refunds are processed.

Hello All,

I wanted to provide another update for everyone about the lacrosse season. In light of Governor Inslee’s extension of school closures for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, WSLA will be cancelling the youth and HS lacrosse seasons. This is not the outcome that anyone was hoping for and I know it’s particularly tough on HS seniors and their families. These are really challenging times for everyone but we need to come together and do what's best for the well being of all.

WSLA hopes to be able to have some kind of celebration of the game and the 2020 seniors this summer if possible, but so much is uncertain right now.

I should have specific information about what refunds will look like per team next week. I am waiting on a couple final invoices and field refunds, as well as reducing expenses as much as possible.

Please let me know if you have any questions or specific concerns.

Season Update 3.25.2020

I hope that everyone is healthy and finding enough to do at home while we all shelter in place. I know that this is a particularly challenging time for everyone as we get used to the new normal.

I wanted to take a couple minutes to update you about WSLA's season plans.  The board met again last night and would still like to stay the course as there have been no new changes for school closures. They would very much like to have some kind of game play IF schools returned as has been stated by April 24.  We don't know what this will look like at this point but it's not likely to look like our regular season format. The board will be meeting to brainstorm ideas.

I really do want to hear from you. So let me know where your program is at with this?  Let me know your concerns, restraints and hopes in terms of any kind of game play.

Stay healthy everyone.
